  • Rimac Tools Valve Spring Tester 500lb Restoration

Picked this tool up locally because I was able to get it for a great price. It needs some minor restoration and cleanup work but nothing that will be too bad. Once restored, it will be put back into use in my shop.

The biggest problem with this tool is the plastic lens that covers the gauge. It is extremely warped which causes it to interfere with the movement of the gauge. In my opinion this lens was subject to a decent amount of hear like a shop fire. this could be cause of the yellowing also. I could be wrong but the other thing that leads me to believe this was in fact the case is the paint on the red needle which was behind the plastic lens was blistered. Anyway someone before me must have put in a bit of work cleaning this to the stage it is at before I got it but it looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a long while.

Now it was not that long ago where you could buy a cheap clock with a curved crystal clear glass lens on it for a couple bucks. Goodwill didn't have any, Walmart was bust too. but I did find this cake/cupcake tray with lid that would work. sadly was it cost the same as I paid for the tool itself. But it was needed and I will still come out a whole lot less than these go for used.

I drilled the center out, sanded, straitened, and repainted the needle and got it reinstalled.

Here is the before and after pics. While it don't look like a big difference it is. It no longer interferes with the gauge, The red needle now moves like it should, and it much easier to see through.

More to come once it warms up. I had a day that was warm enough that I was able to get this part done but not anything else. Hopefully it wont be too much longer before I can get busy and finish this.
